There's a thought I've always got in mind the day of my departure for a holiday, and that's that by the end of the day, I'll be sleeping in a new bed, in a new environment. I've never gotten used to it, in the sense that I've never grown tired of exploring that fact on that day.
The last line will be cast off at 1800 today, with the many officer cadet's parents waving goodbye to their loved ones, if the OBS send-off ceremony is anything to learn from. As part of the foc'sle berthing team, I always get the best, near unobstructed view of a harbor that we're entering or leaving from my position at the bow, or front of the ship. While I had finally felt that eager sense of anticipation earlier yesterday night, after a bout of anxious trepidation, it's more or less been reverted now, as a usual mix of emotions for this long sail.
I realised I'll be missing quite a bit in these three months. Already I'll miss a class gathering that I'd really look forward to, in addition to a few movies (The Illusionist, Sucker Punch, Battle of Los Angeles) and a few games. (Portal 2, and not to mention the uncertainty of all those cheap daily offers on Steam) Of course, then there's all the weekends that'll be treated like normal working days. Oh well, time is running out, time to go take in some new experiences.
