To realise the value of a
year,
ask a student who has failed his exams.
To realise the value of a
month,
ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.
To realise the value of a
week,
ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realise the value of a
day,
ask a daily wage labourer who has six kids to feed.
To realise the value of an
hour,
ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realise the value of a
minute,
ask a person who has just missed his train.
To realise the value of a
second,
ask a person who has just survived an accident.
To realise the value of a
millisecond,
ask a person who has won the silver medal at the Olympics.

I was tasked again today to do some escort duties for domestic workers doing cleaning work on our ship. Accompanying them to the Officers' Country, or the restricted area where officer bunks are, I noticed a sheet of paper with this that stood out among the many other inspirational quote snippets dotting the ship's bulkheads. I found it pretty darn nice, in my opinion.
