the grass on the other side

Dad was right, and so were my brothers.

"You love the military so much, wait till you go into the army..."

Truth be told, I've never loved the military, I just had a great fascination for the equipment they used and (certain) things they did. Now, hand me a rifle and I'd still go over it with interest, but the same interest that was there before I went in won't be there on the same level any longer.

Similarly, my desire to find nice, secluded pockets of greenery in Singapore to enjoy has waned somewhat, replaced by the greater desire to enjoy the urban landscape that's just as beautiful in Singapore, just in a different way. When we headed over from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal last morning all the way to Singapore Discovery Center, we bypassed the IR on the Shears Bridge, and the curved facade of the three sentinels, set against a glowing morning sun was spectacularly entrancing. Flanking the bridge on the other side was the Flyer (that I still want to ride on) and the F1 race track, and once again on the opposite side was the rest of the CBD, half of it constantly under construction.

The glass panels of the commercial buildings did their usual and gradual pane-by-pane reflection of the morning sun as we passed by, and the whole scene was a sight to behold, taking also into account the fact that I'd been seeing oil palms for a whole week. When the Good Friday weekend comes around, I want to use it fruitfully to walk around and get a feel of what I've been missing for some time. Now, though, I have a ton of things to pack and a sleepy body to rest, despite my eleven hours of sleep last night.
