Don't look back in ( )
Wednesday, January 27, 2010

I realised that I'll be married either before or after Chinese New Year, and a part of me is anticipating the future while a smaller part of me takes side glances to the past. I went to MJC today to do my part for a promotional video for Talent Management that's going to be shown to the J1 cohort, among other promotional videos for Council, Chrystal (our CME component) various important CCAs and even PE. I'd fathom it's less to attract students and more to give them a peek at what's in store for them in 2010.

Going in my home clothes, I saw quite a few other youths disembark for the bus at the same stop, and I later found out that appeals were being accepted, even as the introductory camp was about to begin just a few days later. The school was seemingly empty; I had forgotten that there are no breaks on Wednesdays because of the shorter timetable for that day. The video was pretty much short and simple, Mr Lye told me I'd be able to see a copy when it's done. I'm glad I went back, because it brought back a lot of 'nondescript' memories of my time there. I had no idea what I was recalling, but I just had a permanent smile surveying the school grounds everywhere I went.

I guess it was the sense of satisfaction that I've cleared a hurdle in life, and very hopefully, pretty well too. Going out the gate, it felt even more surreal as I realised the infamous one-way, 'bolt action' turnstile was gone, replaced with the good old fashioned gate. Even at the bus stop that I always use to get home from MJC, the pleasant, subtle sense of nostalgia lingered. I don't look back longingly at the past, at least not yet. I'm too busy anticipating my hopes, wishes and expectations of the future.
