Next week will be the last week of school before the prelims.

After the prelims, there will be just one week of the standard timetable (730-430-ish) and that will be followed by a few weeks of truncated timetable.

At the end of that, we'll be treated to a farewell, which is this thing they do every year for J2s. I have all the faith that it will not be as lacklustre as the Damai farewell. On that day, it will be the last day that my classmates and I will need to sing Majulah Singapura for assembly, and for that matter, it will be the last morning assembly we'd have to attend in any institution. It will be the last time we'd need to wear our uniforms too.

I imagine that day would probably be a really interesting one.

Anyway, recently we had this compass talk (compass is the name given to our CME period) dealing with the usual BGR stuff, which was quite interesting given that we were all expecting the usual 'coping with exam stress' talk. Among other things, it dealt with what people looked for in their partners, and we were asked to rank certain listed attributes that were provided in order of percieved importance.

My friend, sitting at the 'front' of the class, was approached by the teacher hosting the talk to share the top three of his 'wishlist' into a microphone. Sad to say, he was honest about it, and when he said 'good looks' was one of the choices, he suffered from quite a bit of teasing. Even my math teacher joined in on the fun; he asked where the 'good looks boy' was when he came late. (its funnier if you were there C: )

Anyway, I was thinking about it, and without the constraints of a list, here are my top three, in order of importance.

3. Interests
Well, I wouldn't expect a girl to share the same interest that I have with computers and their games, nor would I expect any to have some opinion on military hardware or software. But when it comes to current affairs or anything like that, I'd prefer to have someone with whom I can carry a conversation with on such topics.
2. Values
I'd give up a seat on the train (or bus) for an old person, a couple or a family, and I'd like the same kind of willingness to do that in a girl. I won't donate to televised charity shows, and I wouldn't like to submit myself to a person pestering me to do so. Different values, and the more mine gel with another's, the better.
1. Intellect

I do admit though, that looks are still of some importance. First impressions count, and you only get to know of a person's personalities and traits when you get to know a person better than with just a fleeting glance. Still, (as Yichen has pointed out before,) my concept of what constitutes good looks are not very high. In a casual relationships looks may have a greater precedence, but marriages always have to be with complementing personalities for it to truly work.

Also, Viva La Glam, or prom (hey, don't get me started on the name. I know. I know what you're about to utter) has been confirmed at the Marriott Hotel early in december, and table forms are already being submitted. I've decided to go. Only 382 or so of the 800 strong cohort can go, possibly due to the fact that preparations may have been late. its 90 bucks per person. Hope its going to be better than Damai's prom too.

I remember the most painful part of that prom was the song that one of the bands played. Some Coldplay song. Or Graduation. You ever get that feeling of utter shame and embarrassment when someone from your school comes on stage and does something terribly?

It reminds me of that time when, for Teachers' day, this utterly stupid band in MJC sang the song, It's What I Go to School For, by Busted. That is possibly the most enduring fail I saw with my own eyes. It is because of them that school bands are now prohibited from special events and Prom. Well, thank god for small favors. If you don't get why the band is stupid, then maybe you have't heard the song. Go ahead, agree with me and click on the link.
