I went to ACJC today with the rest of the tennis team for our first match of the A divisions. Since we usually start Wednesdays at 9:15, (leaving me to wake up at about 7:45, which is seriously a blessing in the middle of the school week. Sometimes we have house meetings to fill that slot, but I don't go for it anyway. I'm not about to miss out on 2 extra hours of sleep for that.) I had to come to school to attend just two lessons, since we were let off at 11:15. Morning assembly, math lecture, physics lecture, leave for lunch, leave for ACJC.
Anyway, we hopped onto a chartered bus, one of those smaller coaches, that seriously reminded me of my Dubai trip. The coach configuration was 1-2 seating, and I sat at the same row and seat number of a totally different coach, nonetheless feeling a little back in the Middle East. The line-up was called, and (tell no one) thank god I was not in it. I went there with a nonchalant feeling, 'cos hot damn, there wasn't any pressure on me.
When I thought about that, I instinctively thought about my father and what he used to say, that while you may not desire the pressure and you may not want it, you know that it is such because you are lacking somewhere. That lack of skill in that area may be crucial to you or it may not be, but whatever it is, being absolved of that pressure is not going to yield any results, since results only come with effort.
Anyway, quotes aside, we made a very similiar route to ACJC, because not too long ago we visited UWC, whose campus happened to be very close to said school. They had 4 courts side by side in one tight rectangle, which was good since this would make things go faster.
We lost all our matches, 5-0. The match I was doing lines-man duty for had a score of 9-0 down. I wasn't perturbed at all.
If you ask me, I'd much rather have skipped the match altogether and went for lessons. That would have been more beneficial and less of a distance to cover. (ACJC is near Buona Vista, while MJC is at Pasir Ris.) The next match is up against HCI, I'm not holding my breath and I hope that the line-up will be pretty much the same.
The faster this season is over the better.I'd like to play some casual tennis with joel, or some badminton with the usual bunch. I'd do that once this season comes to a close.
