The last issue of Musings@Meridian by the 08 cohort is going to be rolled out after June, so I wanted, if possible, to do both the front and back cover this time. I did the front cover of a lion cub two issues back, then the back cover for what was meant to be a sports cca tribute the last time around, and now, I'd like to try out both. It would look good on my cv (supposing I do want to venture into design next time... though that's unlikely)
I had some qualms though... the design in-charge the other time screwed my front cover background with some low-res background, and the words I was promised in the tribute in the other cover didn't come, leaving some to ask why it looked a bit plain. I don't want them altering my design as best possible. They seem to have a knack for finding low-res images on the net and blowing them up to proportion... The pixelation that results is painful.
Always dying to try some manga, (can't possibly draw sci-fi for the front cover now can I?) I borrowed this fashion design book for the fourth time and used it as reference. This drawing was done an hour before the CL'B' paper, refined for two more hours (sitting at a HDB void deck and minding my own business while waiting 3 hours for the time between the end of the CLB paper and the meet the people), and then edited on the com for about 4 hours, making it a grand total of 7 hours work. Imho, the second last image looks nicer than the finished product... I donch know why. (might be the drawing of one's eyes to the skin tone...) Various major changes included making the girl look less cheena, (three of three persons mentioned that, so I surfed for some hairstyles and altered it) shortening her arms and removing the earphone wires, since some people mistook that for her body contour.
I liked the bag, and I liked the fact that I didn't have to reference anything from it... Most of it was from memory or from my imagination, since quite a few girls in school carry those types of bags around anyway. What I didn't accept and change was Joel's suggestion to pimp the uniform and making it more provocative with netting. What a sick, sick guy.
