Happynewyear(a damn cliche title at that)
Thursday, January 1, 2009

I've always loved reading round-up articles on the newspapers on the events that occured throughout the year. Life often passes too fast, and with my less than stellar memory to boot, events usually seem more distant than they occured. You know, Happy new year will forever carry a subtle link to Happy Chinese New Year to me. huh.

I nearly forgot this case occured this year. There's a picture of him for the cover of LOST too...

I enjoyed the countdown yesterday on the rooftop as I planned, seeing the nice fireworks display, while two houses behind us, the new neighbours seemed to be doing the same. The televised version of the Marina Bay countdown was painful to watch as usual, and I don't ever think Singapore can seriously live up to a partying city status without trying too hard. By the way, I seriously feel sad for the tenants at the Singapore Flyer. A classic opportunity to flood the tills, gone. Wasted. The businesses there must seriously feel crushed and utterly devastated to have that opportunity slip.

Before that, my family had a dinner at Casa Verde at the Botanical Gardens, a rare occasion with all of us at the same table and chatting away. I also realized that there seriously are two kinds of people that you see on such festive occasions. Those who mass send messages and those who don't. I'm not labelling people here, because I know of many around me who do, and i'm not deriding them either. I just noticed that it's something I will never do, not unless I have a really close connection with a particular person that seeks such an occasion. I just find it impersonal and not completely sincere, compared to if I were to be wished in person. But that's another story. That's also more of an automatic gesture anyway...

This year is going to be our turn to decide the next leg of our fates, and the pressure to perform mounts even before I've completed my homework.
