today in the news

Every morning, i make myself a simple breakfast and sit down to flip through the newspapers. I usually just read Life! and The Straits Times, and on Tuesdays i will read Digital Life. I don't bother with Home, as it rarely comes up with interesting news. In any case, i did come across two articles that may be interesting for you people who deign to read the newspapers.

Two Singaporeans have sunken more than 10k (or is it 100K? Yeah it probably is 100k...) into a project for Singapore's first Sinema. As you guessed, the misspelling comes from the melding of Singapore with Cinema. This Cinema will only showcase Singaporean movies, and in every other aspect will be just like any other cinema. There has been scepicism with their venture, but they have decided to go ahead even with such naysayers advising them against it. Well, in my opinion it will be a failure. Simply because i beg to agree that no such venture will take off with such poor Singaporean productions. We had that Gine Shopping movie recently. Did we even go and watch it? I did'nt even give a second thought. We do have some that seem to work, like I Not Stupid and 20:41 or whatever the movie was titled. But these are too rare and take some time to produce. What i think is that this picture house will probably have to resort to almagations of short movies and animations by students to fill in the timespan between the release of these better Singaporean productions. Would this work? Only time will tell, but i am sure that there will always be the Singaporean flavour; initial hype followed by a slow decline.

On another note, news has it that legendary Michael Schumaker is now racing-in a cab. Word has it that he was doing some errands like picking up his dog, before going with his family for a trip overseas. However, time suddenly grew short and they were running late in the taxi. Schumie then asked the cabbie politely if he could take the helm. When the driver agreed, Schumie then apparently proceeded to drive the taxi as if it was a Formula 1 car, twisting and weaving through traffic with great finess and prowess. He was able to make it on time.
